When the inner nerves of your tooth are infected, our dentists can provide a root canal treatment to remove the damaged tissue and restore the health and function of your tooth. Root canal therapy is often the only alternative to a tooth extraction, and are usually the preferred treatment as this procedure allows you to keep your tooth.
Root canal treatment may be necessary if:
- Decay has reached the pulp of your tooth
- There is an infection or abscess within the tooth nerve or at the root tip
- Your tooth has suffered trauma or injury
During your root canal procedure, our dentists will remove pulp, nerve tissues, bacteria and any tooth decay or tooth damage present in the tooth. The tooth will then be cleaned, filled with medicated material and sealed against future decay. We will then provide a temporary crown or filling while your final crown is completed. After your crown has been completed, will be place it over the tooth to finish restoring your smile and oral health. You may require several visits to our office to complete your root canal treatment, depending on the severity of the damage.
Following your root canal, please remember to practice good oral hygiene at home and to visit our dentists and team regularly for dental cleanings and exams. This will help prevent future infection and decay and increase the longevity of your treatment so that you can continue to enjoy a healthy smile.
